Artist : RAE HARRIS
Rae McPherson Harris (1905 - 2002), born in Geraldton, Western Australia
She studied in Venice with Professor Bepi Galetti, head of the Academia, where she worked with oils and pastels.
She also studied in the studio of Pietro Annigoni, in Florence, concentrating on charcoal sketches.
In London she studied with Stella Lewis Marks, the queen's miniaturist.
- Honorary member Royal Miniature Society (H.R.M.S.)
- Listed in "Who's Who In The World" American publication 4th ed. 1978/79 and 5th ed. 1980/81
- Honorary appointment to the National Board of Advisers of the American Bibliographical Society
- Gold medal awarded by the Academia Italia Delle Arti E De/Lavori in 1980 for her portrait of Lady Mayoress of Perth, Mrs Adele Michaels
- Diploma of Merit in 1982 from the University Delle Arti
- Golden Palm of Europe in 1986 from Academia Europe
- A medal from Pope Paul VI for a miniature of Archibishop Goody of Perth
- Wrote what is considered as the definitive work on painting miniatures - "How To Paint Miniatures"
- Wrote "The Artists Notebook"
- Wrote and illustrated "The Dream", with Beryl Harp, a children's fantasy of the Aboriginal Dreamtime, winner of the TDK 1992 Australian Audio Book award
